Al-Qaida urges revolt against Musharraf

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, July 12 (UPI) -- Al-Qaida, in an audiotape posted on an Islamist Web site, accused the Pakistani government of "criminal aggression" against the Red Mosque.

The group urged Pakistanis to rebel against President Pervez Musharraf, Alalam satellite TV reported.

Fighting at the mosque in Islamabad killed more than 100 people. Religious leaders at the mosque, backed by students at its religious schools, had been trying to enforce Islamic religious law by shutting down brothels and, on one occasion, kidnapping Chinese nationals working in a massage parlor.

Osama bin Laden and other top al-Qaida leaders are believed to be living along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
