WILLIAMSTON, Mich., July 11 (UPI) -- A Michigan native who recently lost his northern border relations post said he was fired for opposing the White House's plans to violate a border treaty.
Dennis Schornack, a former aide to ex-Michigan Gov. John Engler, likened his recent dismissal to the controversial firing of eight U.S. attorneys by the Justice Department, the Detroit Free Press said Wednesday.
"I'm not right-wing enough," Schornack said.
Schornack alleges that he was fired for opposing U.S. Justice Department officials earlier this year on a proposal for a Washington state border wall with Canada.
He told the officials that the wall fell in a border region that was to be obstacle-free according to a U.S.-Canada treaty.
Officials wanted to use owners' property rights in that region to supersede the treaty.
While Schornack's position was supported by his Canadian counterpart, he was notified of his dismissal on Tuesday by the White House.
"I didn't buy the property rights agenda because I thought national security was more important," he told the newspaper.
