Chinese military worries Japan

TOKYO, July 7 (UPI) -- China's increasing ability to strike beyond its borders is one of the major concerns in a white paper put together by the Japanese Defense Department.

"Defense of Japan 2007" was approved Friday by the Cabinet, Yomiuri Shimbun reported Saturady.

China's upgrading of its military forces is primarily aimed at Taiwan, the paper said. China is now stronger than Taiwan.

But China has modernized its navy and air force beyond what might be needed to target Taiwan.

The paper also stressed the need for Japan and the United States to share information and for close monitoring of North Korea's promised dismantling of its nuclear weapons program.
