Attack at Iraqi checkpoint kills 15

BAGHDAD, July 5 (UPI) -- At least 15 people were killed and 17 others were injured Thursday in a suicide car bomb attack on a checkpoint near Ramadi, Iraq, police said.

Many of the victims were police officers manning the checkpoint. The area, in Anbar province, is the scene of regular fighting between local tribes and militants linked to al-Qaida, the BBC reported.

In a separate incident, at least three people were killed when a car bomb exploded outside a restaurant in Baiji, Iraq. Police said the bomber targeted a police patrol parked outside the restaurant in the city, 120 miles north of Baghdad.
