GAZA, July 4 (UPI) -- British reporter Alan Johnston said Wednesday his kidnappers' decision to release him was a dream come true for him.

The BBC reporter said in an interview with his company that he had dreamed of being free numerous times during his 114 days in captivity, but was never sure what his Army of Islam captors intended to do with him.

"I literally dreamt many times of being free, and always woke up back in that room," Johnston said. "And now it really is over, and it really is indescribably good."

The journalist expressed his immense gratitude to those who helped arrange his release.

Johnston, who called his captivity in the Gaza Strip stressful, said he did not blame other Palestinians for the hostile intentions of his former captors.

"I knew that the handful of people that kidnapped me were a complete aberration -- something completely other," Johnston told the BBC. "My memories of Gaza will be very much of the best kind, despite what happened to me."
