NEOLA, Utah, July 3 (UPI) -- A wildfire in northeastern Utah, fueled by hot, dry weather and gusty winds, was only 10 percent contained Tuesday after burning about 35,000 acres.
Regardless, speaking in the town of Neola, Dave Carter, an operations field chief for the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team said crews have been successful in protecting many homes, power lines, water and power plants and other structures, the Salt Lake (Utah) Tribune reported Tuesday.
Marc Mullenix, an incident commander-in-training, said more than 700 firefighters were battling the blaze.
"We are looking really good," Mullenix said. "Because we are the only large fire in the nation, we got a lot of the resources we requested."
As well, about 100 Utah National Guard troops were dispatched to the Uinta Mountains to enforce road closures in Ashley National Forest, the report said.
The fire began Friday and investigators haven't announced a suspected cause.
