Kirchner wants wife to succeed him

BUENOS AIRES, July 2 (UPI) -- Argentina President Nestor Kirchner says his wife should take his place as the candidate from the ruling party in October elections.

Kirchner said his wife, Sen. Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, would be an ideal candidate to succeed him as the head of the ruling Peronist party since he will not be seeking a second term in office, La Nacion newspaper reported Monday.

Kirchner's wife said she will formally announce whether she intends to run later this month.
