ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 30 (UPI) -- Gen. Pervez Musharraf has been warned by his own ministers that his lax attitude toward Taliban and Afghan militants could lead to chaos in Pakistan.

"There is a general policy of appeasement towards the Taliban, which has further emboldened them," said a report from Pakistan's interior ministry to President Musharraf, the New York Times reported Saturday.

The document warns Taliban fighters are rapidly spreading into Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province, where outnumbered security forces have all but surrendered to the militants.

Unabated "Taliban resistance has brought about serious repercussions for Pakistan," the report said.

Pakistan has received nearly $5 billion from the U.S. government since 2002 to fight the Taliban along its boarder with Afghanistan, but the money has failed to stop the influx of Islamist warriors, a diplomat told The Times.

"It's tragic it's taken so long to recognize it," the diplomat said.
