MIAMI, June 28 (UPI) -- A juvenile court judge in Miami was ordered Wednesday to make public the child-custody hearings involving a Cuban national and a Cuban exile family.
The 3rd District Court of Appeals in Miami overturned a ruling last year that the hearings be closed to the media and public, The Miami Herald reported online.
The Miami Herald Media Co. had appealed the order.
A Cuban girl's mother illegally immigrated to the United States in 2004, and after a short while, the mother tried to killed herself. The girl's father, still living in Cuba, has pressed for custody.
The child currently is living with a foster family in the Miami area.
