WASHINGTON, June 22 (UPI) -- Ex-aides to former Vice President Al Gore doubt the one-time Democratic presidential nominee will take another stab at running for the White House.
The Hill Friday cited a number of political experts who played a role in Gore's 2000 campaign expressing skepticism he would challenge the current Democratic frontrunners for the nomination.
Speculation that the former candidate is considering another run was sparked by the fact that most members of Gore's inner political circle haven't signed up with any of the current presidential primary campaigns.
"There's no conspiracy about top Gore people waiting it out," ex-campaign manager Donna Brazille told The Hill. "I can't give you a clue why we're on the sidelines. We all have our reasons."
A few of the senior operatives from Gore's 2000 campaign, like former campaign manager William Daley and senior strategist Ron Klain, are allied with Democratic contenders, but his closest confidents remain neutral.
