10 seniors die in Russian fire

YEKATERINOVKA, Russia, June 21 (UPI) -- A blaze at a home for the elderly in the Russian village of Yekaterinovka left 10 people dead and four hospitalized early Thursday.

The fire started in the top floor of a three-story building of the seniors boarding house, Itar-Rass reported. There were 317 people in the building when the fire started after midnight.

Flames had overtaken much of the building by the time fire engines and ambulances arrived, the news agency said..

Yekaterinovka is located in a pine-forest region along the Irtysh River in the Omsk Region.
