Newton letter predicts Apocalypse

JERUSALEM, June 19 (UPI) -- A letter written by Isaac Newton that predicts the end of the world no sooner than 2060 has gone on display at Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Newton wrote in the 1704 letter, which had previously been locked in the Israeli national library, that his studies of the Bible's Book of Daniel led him to believe the Apocalypse will arrive no sooner than 2060, Sky News reported Tuesday.

"It may end later, but I see no reason for its ending sooner," Newton wrote.

"This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fanciful men who are frequently predicting the time of the end, and by doing so bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail."

Newton expressed his belief in the events of the Book of Revelation, which predicts massive plagues and fires as well as a climactic battle between good and evil. Sky News said.
