Arab League meets on nuclear-free zone

CAIRO, June 18 (UPI) -- The Arab League met in Cairo Monday to discuss making the Middle East free of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction.

League Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Ahmad bin Hilli said in a statement the two-day meeting grew out of the recent Arab summit in Riyadh that called for the study and evaluation of efforts to rid the region of weapons of mass destruction, the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA reported.

He said the Arab leaders had regional and international developments to discuss, including what he said was senior Israeli officials' acknowledgment of their country's nuclear program, KUNA reported.
