GAZA, June 17 (UPI) -- Hundreds of Palestinians waited at borders into Israel Sunday as international aid officials tried to determine how to care for them.
"We are headed toward a disaster," said Ibarahim Habib, a field coordinator for Physicians for Human Rights.
Palestinians trying to flee Hamas-controlled Gaza hoped to cross into Israel and then enter the Fatah-dominated West Bank, Ynetnews reported. Few were being allowed through and there were conflicting reports on how long food, medical and energy supplies would last in Gaza.
"We know of many injured and sick people who are at the crossings," Habib said, adding that hospitals in Gaza have been turned into bases for Hamas troops.
Israel security sources denied any responsibility for Palestinians trying to flee Gaza. "Gaza is not our problem," security sources told Ynetnews Sunday.
