Teen charged with killing friend, parents

MANHEIM, Pa., June 16 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania high school student was charged Saturday with killing a 16-year-old friend and his parents.

Alec Devon Kreider, 16, of Manheim, Pa., was arrested after telling his father Tuesday what he had done, the Lancaster New Era reported. Timothy Kreider reported the confession to police.

The arrest came more than a month after Thomas and Lisa Haines and their son, Kevin, were stabbed to death in their home. A daughter, Maggie, ran from the house to a neighbor after her mother told her to get help.

Alec Kreider and Kevin Haines, both students at Manheim High School, were reportedly friends. Police said Kreider had only planned to smother Kevin Haines when he first went to the house, although they described the killings of the parents as intentional.

Manheim is a quiet town in Lancaster County, the area between Philadelphia and Harrisburg known for its Amish community.
