BEIRUT, Lebanon, June 14 (UPI) -- Lebanese officials Thursday declared a day of mourning for an anti-Syrian member of parliament killed in a bomb blast.
Walid Eido was killed Wednesday. His son, Khalid, and two bodyguards were also killed in the attack, CNN reported Thursday.
Lebanese security sources said the explosion, which is believed to have been caused by a car bomb, killed at least six other people and wounded 11.
Walid Jumblatt, a Druze leader and frequent Syria critic, blamed the attack on Syria, saying it was an attempt to decrease the anti-Syrian majority in parliament.
"With this bunch of assassins in Damascus, they don't care about international justice," Jumblatt told CNN.
Schools, banks and businesses in Beirut and in other parts of the country were shut down Thursday for a national day of mourning after the attack. A funeral for Eido was scheduled for Thursday.
