Emigrants added Confucius family tree

JINAN, China, June 11 (UPI) -- The next edition of the family tree of China's immortal philosopher Confucius will include thousands of descendents living overseas.

China's Xinhua news service said the fifth revision of the Confucius Genealogy will be released in 2009 and will include the names of about 40,000 people living outside China, including 50 Americans and 34,000 Koreans.

The update is the first since the 1930s, and will double the size of the list to nearly 2 million people.

Xinhua said genealogy is an important aspect of Chinese culture and officials with the update project say they hope the new list will remind descendants overseas of their Chinese heritage.
