Afghans killed at NATO checkpoint

KABUL, Afghanistan, June 11 (UPI) -- Three Afghans were killed when their vehicle failed to halt as directed at a NATO-manned checkpoint in Kunar Province, NATO officials said Monday.

Two other nationals were wounded after NATO forces opened fire on the vehicle as it approached the checkpoint in the road. After sustaining fire, the truck then hit a 10-year-old boy.

Two of the wounded were evacuated to International Security Assistance Force medical facilities, according to NATO.

Officials said an investigation into the incident would be conducted.
