Russia brushing up anti-terrorist security

MOSCOW, June 5 (UPI) -- Russia has evidence that terrorists are seeking weapons of mass destruction and technology on how to make them, a top security official said Tuesday.

Nikolai Patrushev, who heads the Russian anti-terrorism committee, said some of the information was coming from "our foreign partners" though none was specifically mentioned, RIA Novosti reported.

Launching a regular committee session, Patrushev said the security issue had risen to the top of the agenda. He said measures designed to secure key defense, nuclear, space and industrial facilities would get a thorough going-over.

Patrushev said that under the global initiative to counter nuclear terrorism acts adopted by Russia and the United States, the two countries will physically protect nuclear facilities and improve measures to keep terrorists out.
