TEHRAN, June 3 (UPI) -- Israel will collapse and surrender to Islamic fighters, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad predicted Sunday.
"We will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future," Ahmadinejad said in commemorating the death of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
Ahmadinejad said the countdown to Israel's destruction began when Israel invaded Lebanon last year, the Jerusalem Post reported.
"With the help of all the Lebanese and Palestinian fighters, anyone who works for God and believes in the power of the people will prevail," Ahmadinejad said.
Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki urged Hamas and the Islamic Jihad to continue to fight Israel. "The Palestinian people are a mighty people and there is a need to continue with the resistance," Mottaki said.
