, England, June 3 (UPI) -- John Prescott, the outgoing deputy prime minister of Britain, was hospitalized this weekend with what his office called a "suspected chest infection."
A statement from the minister's office said Prescott, who will leave his position June 27, recently was admitted to an unidentified hospital to undergo a battery of tests, The Sun reported Sunday.
"The DPM was taken ill earlier today," said a statement from Prescott's office Saturday. "He has been admitted to hospital. He is undergoing tests as a result of a suspected chest infection."
The hospital visit is not the first for the 69-year-old politician. He was hospitalized last Christmas for a kidney stone removal and has been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
Prior to entering the hospital Saturday, Prescott had been touring the United States and the Caribbean with Prime Minister Tony Blair, the British newspaper reported.
