Search continues for missing canoeists

FAIRBANKS, Alaska, June 2 (UPI) -- Searchers in Alaska continued looking for two people who went missing on a canoe trip during the Memorial Day holiday.

The body of a third member of the party -- Liza Lomando, 20 -- was found Tuesday in Lake Harding, about 45 miles south of Fairbanks.

The missing paddlers were identified as Travis Alexander, 19, and Kathleen Garrigan, 24. All three were volunteers for AmericCorps.

Garrigan, of Oak Park, Ill., had been working with Native American teenagers, the Chicago Sun-Times said Saturday.

The newspaper said the missing trio's campsite apparently had not been disturbed. State troopers were looking into the possibility alcohol was involved in the apparent accident.
