GAZA, June 1 (UPI) -- Missing BBC reporter Alan Johnston said he was in good health in the first video released of him since his abduction in Gaza 12 weeks ago.

"First of all, my captors have treated me very well. ... They have fed me well, there has been no violence toward me at all and I'm in good health," Johnston, 45, said in a video that was posted on the Internet and delivered to the Palestinian Ramattan news agency.

Johnston also called for an end to western sanctions on the Palestinians on the tape, which gave no indication when it was made, the BBC reported.

The Army of Islam, which has said it is holding Johnston, demanded the release of Islamic cleric Abu Qatada, who is being held in London as a national security threat, on the tape, the BBC reported.

Johnston was abducted March 12 in Gaza. After the video appeared, British authorities and the BBC renewed calls for his immediate release.
