, Pakistan, June 1 (UPI) -- Pakistan banned gatherings of more than five people in Islamabad Friday, a day before a planned procession for suspended Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry.

Supporters of the suspended chief justice planned to march Saturday from Islamabad to a lawyers' convention in the Northwest Frontier Province where Chaudhry was scheduled to speak, the Press Trust of India reported.

Aitzaz Ahesan, Chaudhry's lawyer, told PTI the group planned to go ahead with its plans.

Officials in Islamabad said the ban was intended to maintain law and order in the capital city.
