Prodigy, 21, about to become doctor

HAVANA, June 1 (UPI) -- Cuban leader Ricardo Alarcon said Friday that Fidel Castro is almost fully recovered from his long-term gastro-intestinal illness.
In an interview with CNN, National Assembly President Alarcon did not specify, however, when or if Castro would return to power.
The 80-year-old Castro handed over authority to his younger brother, Raul Castro, last July, saying he was required to have several surgeries for an unspecified intestinal sickness.
Following his decision to step down, U.S. officials speculated that Castro was near death, speculation that Cuban officials adamantly denied.
