KARACHI, Pakistan, May 30 (UPI) -- Three envelopes, each containing a single bullet, were left in the cars of three Pakistani representatives of foreign news agencies.
The journalists found them as they returned to their vehicles in the port city of Karachi, a local media official told CNN. The city was the scene of much violence recently stemming from demonstrations over the suspension of Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry by President Pervez Musharraf.
CNN reported Wednesday that no one had claimed responsibility for the envelopes but quoted a spokesman for the Pakistan Federation of Union Journalists that the incident was an attempt to threaten working journalists. A police official said the incident is under investigation.
The Chaudhry suspension in March has continued to draw widespread public protests. Violence against journalists and television stations has risen despite pleas from media groups to relax restrictions on fair reporting.
