Iran hangs five prisoners

TEHRAN, May 29 (UPI) -- Iran has hanged five prisoners, including a man convicted of belonging to a terrorist group and killing four policemen.

Iran also hanged four convicted drug traffickers, the Fars News Agency reported.

S. Gh, or "Rahmatollah," who was convicted of armed revolt, belonging to a terrorist group, bombing and killing four policemen, was hanged in Zahedan, Fars reported.

Four men who were convicted of smuggling 1,320 pounds of opium were hanged Sunday in Birjand in northeastern Iran, Fars reported.

Several crimes are treated as capital offense in Iran. They include murder, rape, blasphemy, serious drug trafficking, adultery, prostitution, treason and espionage.
