LONDON, May 26 (UPI) -- A Muslim convert who was a mentor for one of the London Transport bombers has been deported from Britain to his native Jamaica.
Abdullah al-Faisal was convicted in 2003 of inciting racial hatred and soliciting murder. He was deported Friday after serving four years of a seven-year prison sentence, The Independent reported.
Home Secretary John Reid said he is now barred from the country.
"I am pleased Abdullah al-Faisal has been removed and excluded from the UK," Reid said. "We are committed to protecting the public and have made it clear that foreign nationals who abuse our hospitality and break our laws can expect to be deported after they have served a prison sentence. We will not tolerate those who seek to spread hate and fear in our communities."
The government's investigation of the July 7 bombings on three London subway trains and a bus determined that Faisal influenced Germaine Lindsay, who was also from Jamaica. Lindsay killed 26 people in a suicide bombing on a train near the Kings Cross station.
