BAGHDAD, May 20 (UPI) -- A leading member of the Iraqi National Accord has been assassinated, it was reported Sunday.

Hadi Farhan Al-Rabe'ei was killed Friday in Iraq, said former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, who leads the Accord.

The statement from Allawi did not say where in Iraq Al-Rabe'ei was killed, reported Kuna, the Kuwait news agency.

The Accord statement condemned "the senseless assassination" of Al-Rabe'ei "who was among the first to oppose (Saddam Hussein's) dictatorship and was also a good example of sacrifice to establish a unified democratic Iraq."

The Accord was established in 1990 to advance a democratic pluralistic regime, Alalam TV said.
