Woman freezes baby after birth

BLOOMFIELD, Pa., May 18 (UPI) -- A Bloomfield, Pa., woman has been charged with abuse of a corpse for stashing her newborn child in a beer box in her freezer.

Police said the infant had been in the freezer for about a month when they got a call tipping them off about the location of the frozen child, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Friday.

It is not known why Christine Hutchinson, 22, stowed the baby in her freezer or if it was even alive when it was born, but authorities planned an autopsy and determine the condition the baby was in when frozen.

Hutchinson told police she delivered the child April 22 on her own in her home and did not call medics or police.

The police said the girl was wrapped in plastic inside a brown paper sack shoved into a Miller High Life Box.

It is still unclear whether Hutchinson will face additional charges.
