ALGIERS, Algeria, May 18 (UPI) -- No political party won a majority in elections for Algeria's parliament, it was announced Friday.

Preliminary results indicated the National Liberation Front Party, or FLN, took 136 seats but failed to obtain a majority of the 389 seats in the People's National Assembly, Algerie Presse Service reported.

Coming in second was Ahmed Ouyahia's National Democratic Rally, which won 61 seats followed by the Movement of Society for Peace, MSP, with 52 seats.

Election results were announced by Interior Minister Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni.
