MUMBAI, May 18 (UPI) -- A special Indian court in Mumbai Friday sentenced five men to three years in prison for the 1993 bombings that killed more than 250 people.
The men, some of them fishermen accused of illegally smuggling the explosives and other ammunitions, were among the first to be sentenced in India's deadliest terror attack.
Another 95 people convicted in the Mumbai attacks will be sentenced in the coming weeks, Voice of America reported.
The bombings in India's financial capital, formerly known as Bombay, were allegedly plotted by reputed mobster Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon, both of whom remain at large.
The 12 bombings targeted Mumbai's stock exchange and commercial buildings was reportedly in retaliation for religious riots in the city that killed hundreds, mostly Muslims.
Indian authorities accuse Pakistan of aiding the plotters, but Pakistan has denied the allegations, the report said.
