JERUSALEM, May 17 (UPI) -- Israeli opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu is calling for the country to cut off the supply of power and water to the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu, chairman of the Likud party, called for the move as well as limited ground excursions into areas that regular see the firings of Qassam rockets as part of a plan to tighten security, Haaretz reported Thursday.
"This government doesn't realize that it must stop this methodical bombing of citizens' homes," he added. "Everyone must imagine what would happen if his house was hit by a Qassam."
Netanyahu said the problem is most pronounced in Sderot and the western Negev, Ynetnews reported Thursday.
"The government doesn't understand that its ultimate obligation is to prevent the shelling of Sderot's homes," he said, "We can't allow this situation to persist."
