KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, May 17 (UPI) -- Two bombs in southern Afghanistan killed 10 police officers Thursday.
A police official said the first bomb killed four officers inside a vehicle on a road in Kandahar, al-Jazeera reported.
The second bomb went off 15 minutes later in the same area, killing six officers who had responded to the first explosion, said the official, Gul Zaman, al-Jazeera reported.
Witnesses said the bombs appeared to be detonated by remote control.
Several people were wounded in the explosions.
Also Thursday, a Taliban spokesman said six U.S. soldiers and 20 Afghan soldiers died fighting with Taliban fighters, al-Jazeera reported. The office of the governor where the fighting reportedly occurred would not comment on the claim.
In Faizabad, the capital of the Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan, the bodyguard to the provincial police chief was killed in an attack that wounded the chief and another bodyguard, al-Jazeera reported.
Al-Jazeera reported that the Taliban had threatened "bad consequences" if the body of a Taliban field commander killed less than a week ago was not given to his relatives. Officials have said Mullah Dadullah's body was buried at a secret location.
