Dueling former N.Y. mayors

WASHINGTON, May 13 (UPI) -- Former New York Mayor Ed Koch says he will campaign hard against former Mayor Rudy Giuliani if Giuliani wins the GOP presidential nomination.

Koch, 82, is a former political ally of Giuliani, but he said he would travel nationwide to campaign against Giuliani if his fellow former mayor is the Republican nominee in 2008, The New York Post reported Sunday.

"If I had to sum it up in a few minutes I would say he's a control freak -- and the control is over your life," said Koch, who has also represented New York in the House of Representatives. "The personality issue is very key."

Koch and Giuliani have been at odds since 1996. Koch wrote about the rift in his 1999 book, "Giuliani: Nasty Man."

Giuliani campaign official Guy Molinari dismissed Koch's criticism.

"It saddens me to think that this guy, who holds himself out to be an expert in the political world, would take steps and interfere with a New Yorker becoming the next president," Molinari told the Post.
