Prodigy, 21, about to become doctor
WASHINGTON, May 14 (UPI) -- A deputy attorney general whose testimony on the firings of nine U.S. Attorneys contradicted U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales announced his resignation.
Paul McNulty sent a letter to Gonzales Monday saying that he planned to quit this summer because of the financial pressures of having children entering their college years, the Washington Post reported Monday.
McNulty, the fourth high-ranking Justice Department official to quit in the wake of congressional hearings over the firings of the U.S. Attorneys, plans to join the private sector, the Post said.
"It seems ironic that Paul McNulty who at least tried to level with the committee goes while Gonzales who stonewalled the committee is still in charge," said Sen. Charles Schumber, D-NY., a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee that questioned Gonzales.
