Three dead in Ukrainian mine accident

DONETSK, Ukraine, May 9 (UPI) -- At least three miners died Wednesday in an explosion at a Ukrainian coal mine.

Itar-Tass reported another 18 miners were hospitalized with burns and carbon monoxide poisoning after the methane explosion at the Krasnolimanskaya coal mine the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine.

The miners were drilling about 1,300 feet underground when the methane explosion occurred and a fire broke out early Wednesday, Itar-Tass reported.
