The woman, who is married to a Nigerian citizen, works for the Nigerian branch of Compass Group, a British company, RIA Novosti said.

The kidnappers are believed to be militants who are fighting the Nigerian government for greater autonomy in the oil-rich Niger Delta. The militants recently have intensified attacks on oil industry facilities operated by western companies.

The woman's kidnapping brought the total number of foreign worker abductions in Nigeria to 28 in the last week. Eight hostages had been released as of Sunday, police said.
