Scottish killer focus of cold case inquiry

EDINBURGH, Scotland, May 6 (UPI) -- Convicted killer Peter Tobin is being investigated by Scottish authorities in a series of cold case unsolved homicides and rapes committed in the region.

Tobin is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of 23-year-old Angelika Kluk. An investigation by authorities has linked him to nearly six unsolved rapes and slayings, The Scotsman reported Sunday.

By investigating Tobin's history prior to Kluk's murder last September, authorities have found that the 60-year-old could potentially have committed the other crimes and will now launch in-depth investigations.

At least one sex offenses expert applauded the initiative and said that Tobin may ultimately prove to be an additional source of proof regarding the older crimes.

"It could be that if he wants to expand his infamy he may, like Henry Lee Lucas, the American serial killer, start admitting to all sorts of things," Ray Wyre told the newspaper. "It could be that he may want to get things off his chest but as he (Tobin) is likely to die in prison, there may not be anything in it for him."
