Plane crash wreckage found in Cameroon

DOUALA,, Cameroon, May 5 (UPI) -- The search for a missing Kenyan Airlines plane that disappeared after takeoff in Cameroon ended Sunday when the wreckage was found in a mangrove swamp.

Officials said there was no word yet on survivors or possible casualties. The BBC reported that the plane had been carrying 114 people from more than 20 countries. The flight originated in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and was on its way to the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.

A BBC correspondent said heavy rain prevented a ground search on Saturday, although aircraft flew over the area. The dense trees of the mangrove swamp southeast of Douala prevented the wreckage from being found earlier.

The Boeing 737-800 was one of the newest planes in the Kenya Airways fleet, said Titus Naikuni, the airline's managing director.
