BATH, England, May 4 (UPI) -- Police in Britain have an unusual clue in a fatal stabbing, a poem that has been posted anonymously around the city of Bath and names the alleged killer.
The victim, Paul Kelly, a 32-year-old father of two, was killed outside a pub where he had been celebrating New Year's Eve with friends. Investigators said they believe the attack was caused by a fight that began inside the pub.
The poem, titled "Running from Paul Kelly," calls the killing "black on white" and says the knife used in the attack was dumped in the Avon River. The poem suggests a racial motive, although police said they do not think that was the case.
Some of the language used has led police to believe the author is black.
Detective Superintendent Nigel Rock said about 200 people were in the pub the night of the slaying, and 25 of them may have seen Kelly's stabbing. Rock said detectives were investigating the person named as the killer, but the name has been removed from copies of the poem that are being officially circulated.
