WASHINGTON, May 3 (UPI) -- An administrative law judge in Washington is suing a dry cleaner for millions of dollars in damages over a lost pair of pants.
Roy Pearson, who is representing himself in the case, claims that Jin and Soo Chung, owners of Custom Dry Cleaners, owe him $67 million, WRC-TV reported. He bases that on an argument that the Chungs committed consumer fraud by posting signs in their store that say "Satisfaction Guaranteed" and "Same-Day Service."
Pearson says the couple not only lost the pants to a pin-striped suit he had dropped off for alterations, they tried to palm off a pair of gray slacks on him. The Chungs say the gray pants were his.
"We can't sleep properly," said Jin Chung. "We cannot eat properly. We can't function properly, because this is always on our mind."
Pearson turned down a $15,000 settlement offer.
His damages estimate is based on claims that the Chungs violated a consumer protection law that calls for damages of $15,000 per day per violation. He added on $15,000 to lease a car every weekend for the next decade to drive to a different cleaner.
