At the Saturday ceremony, where about 5,000 students received their degrees, Clinton urged graduates to use their education to make the world a better place "with more partners and fewer adversaries."

He urged students engaged in public service to continue their endeavors after graduation.

Some students wore orange and maroon ribbons in memory of those who were killed April 16 in a massacre on the campus of Virginia Tech University.
