LONDON, April 28 (UPI) -- Threats that Prince Harry is a prime kidnap target of Iraqi insurgents are being dismissed by British defense sources as "blatant propaganda."
The Guardian reported Saturday that an insurgent commander claimed there was already a plan in place to be carried out by a special unit to capture the royal soldier.
"One of our aims is to capture Harry; we have people inside the British bases to inform us on when he will arrive," the Shia militia loyal to the radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr told the London newspaper.
Britain's Ministry of Defense maintains Prince Harry will continue on a six-month tour to southeastern Iraq with his regiment and the prince will be deployed as a troop leader.
One British defense source told the Guardian: "This is blatant propaganda from those who aim to tear Iraq apart. These threats will not prevent British forces from doing their vital work of building up the Iraqi security forces and helping them to face down those perpetuating violence against the Iraqi people."
