CHICAGO, April 28 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun broke her wrist in a struggle with a mugger outside her Chicago home early Saturday.

The man, who may have been armed with a knife, accosted Moseley Brown and tried to grab her purse, The Chicago Tribune reported. Her wrist was broken as she fought him off.

A University of Chicago student who happened to be passing Moseley Braun's home on the Southside came to her aid.

Moseley Brown, 59, and a relative had been at the theater Friday evening.
