Taliban commander: Bin Laden, Omar alive

KABUL, Afghanistan, April 25 (UPI) -- A senior Taliban commander in Afghanistan says Mullah Omar and Osama bin Laden are both alive, al-Jazeera reported Wednesday.

In an interview, Mullah Dadullah also said bin Laden had directed an attack against U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney during Cheney's visit to Bagram Air Force Base in February.

Dadullah discounted Saudi intelligence reports that bin Laden had died.

"Thank God, he is alive. We get updated information about it," Dadullah said in excerpts broadcast on al-Jazeera Wednesday. "Thank God, he plans the operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan."

In Washington, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters she has seen no intelligence supporting the claim bin Laden was behind the Bagram attack.
