BEAUFORT, S.C., April 23 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy identified the Blue Angels pilot who died in a crash at a Beaufort, S.C., air show as a two-year veteran of the precision flying team.
The pilot killed in Saturday's crash was Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Davis, an 11-year Navy veteran and a two-year member of the Blue Angels, CNN reported.
Davis' family was watching when his plane crashed during a Blue Angels demonstration, another pilot, Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Walley, told CNN.
The crash injured eight people on the ground and damaged eight buildings, a military spokesman said.
CNN reported that the crash happened after Davis' F/A-18 Hornet clipped the tip of a pine tree.
The air show, which was hosted by a nearby U.S. Marine Corps base, continued Sunday without the Blue Angels and included a tribute to Davis.
