BRUSSSELS, Belgium, April 23 (UPI) -- Polish-Russian disagreements on bilateral meat and other farm products could hamper forthcoming summit talks between Brussels and Moscow.

In Warsaw, Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski said no progress has been achieved in recent talks between EU and Russian officials, the Polish news agency PAP reported Monday.

Kaczynski said Poland doesn't plan to start talks on a new agreement with Russia until Moscow lifts a 16-month ban on Polish meat imports.

Poland said Russia's meat ban is aimed at punishing the Warsaw government for supporting Ukraine's so-called Orange Revolution in 2004. Poland also charged Moscow's meat ban was a political move to make a rift between old and new EU states.

As Russia complained about the quality of Polish meat, the European Commission kept arguing Brussels had nothing against Poland's food.

The European Union and Russia should make fresh efforts to try to solve outstanding issues before Brussels-Moscow summit talks in May, the EU Observer said.
