Vt. Senate urges Bush-Cheney impeachment

MONTPELIER, Vt., April 21 (UPI) -- The Vermont Senate has passed a resolution urging impeachment proceedings in the U.S. Congress against President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

The resolution passed Friday 16-9. The 16 supporters were Democrats. Three Democrats joined six Republicans in opposing the resolution, the Burlington (Vt.) Free Press reported Saturday.

The resolution said Bush and Cheney's leadership raised "serious questions of constitutionality, statutory legality and abuse of public trust."

The state's congressional delegation said it is premature to pursue impeachment, though they share frustrations and anger at the Bush administration.
