Prodigy, 21, about to become doctor

VATICAN CITY, April 20 (UPI) -- Pope Benedict XVI in his meeting Friday with Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse urged the resumption of talks with separatist Tamil Tiger rebels.
The BBC reported that Benedict stressed the need to respect human rights and described escalating violence on the Indian Ocean island nation as dramatic. Rajapakse is on a three-day official visit to Italy.
The renewed violence between Sri Lankan authorities and the Tiger rebels, who want a separate homeland for the Tamil-speaking minority, has claimed dozens of lives.
The Roman Catholic charity Caritas said the violence also has displaced more than 40,000 people in the last month alone, the report said.
